The session was about women and their rights in workplace. The speaker explained what are the important concepts that help women to work effectively at workplace and secure their rights as an employee.
EQUAL REMUNERATION ACT, 1976 imposes a duty on the employer under the Act to pay equal remuneration to men and women workers for same work or work of a similar nature.
No employer can, while making recruitment for the same work or work of a similar nature, or in any condition of service subsequent to recruitment such as promotions, training or transfer, make any discrimination against women except where the employment of women in such work is prohibited or restricted by or under any law for the time being in force. Even the SC of India has upheld the constitutional validity of the principle of equal pay for equal work.
This session enabled students to understand what are the rights that women possess at their workplace are and how students can adapt the right workplace behaviour that shows mutual respect to women employees.
