Dr. Somasekhar holds a doctoral degree in Zoology from Bengaluru North University and boasts a substantial tenure within the realm of academia. His distinguished career encompasses esteemed teaching and research positions at prestigious institutions such as the University of Southern California at Los Angeles, University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Ohio State University, Columbus. His academic prowess is underscored by numerous scholarly contributions, manifesting as research papers of distinction published within both national and international scientific journals.
In his capacity as the Managing Trustee and Chairman at IAET, Dr. Somasekhar Thummala has displayed dynamic leadership, instrumental not only in the establishment of several educational institutions but also in shaping the visionary framework underpinning pivotal quality initiatives integral to the structured governance of IAGI. His profound engagement with the educational discourse lends a broader and more comprehensive perspective to the benchmarking endeavors at IAGI.
Mrs. Bharathi holds a degree in Economics and plays a central role in the conceptualization, planning, and execution of both long-term and short-term initiatives advanced by the trust. Her staunch commitment extends to advocating for staff and student welfare activities at IAGI, actively contributing to the planning and execution of student enrolments, student support mechanisms, and staff welfare programs.
Mr. Venkatesh, renowned as an actor and producer within the sphere of regional cinema in South India, is equally distinguished for his philanthropic endeavors. As the founding member of the Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Education Trust, his substantial experience in the public domain significantly augments the policy-making and governance functions exercised by IAGI.
Dr. Suneel Krishna is a distinguished medical practitioner by profession, and as one of the younger members of the trust, he contributes substantially to the formulation of innovative learning methodologies and pedagogical strategies at IAGI. He lends his expertise to the conceptualization and design of various infrastructural enhancements at IAGI and actively engages in technology-driven initiatives that focus on the domains of teaching, learning, and evaluation.
Ms. Rachana, a law graduate from NALSAR, Hyderabad, possesses a well-honed and proactive disposition. Her systematic and critically astute approach to decision-making significantly augments the trust’s capacity to formulate inclusive and equitable policies and plans. She is a fervent advocate for the integration of community-based values into the educational framework, and her commitment to fostering collaborative teamwork is emblematic of her involvement in nurturing individuals’ personalities and psyches.
The Indian Academy Group of Institutions has established Governing Councils for individual institutions with the primary purpose of overseeing the strategic planning, development, and effective execution of diverse academic, co-curricular, and enrichment initiatives. These esteemed councils also assume a pivotal role in the provisioning of requisite infrastructure and the appointment of proficient human resources.
Distinguished figures hailing from diverse academic, industrial, and civic spheres are meticulously chosen to serve as representatives within these councils. Furthermore, nominees representing affiliating boards/universities, such as the Pre-University Board, Bangalore North University, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and other pertinent academic and regulatory bodies, are integral constituents of these councils. In a concerted effort to promote a comprehensive and inclusive approach to policy formulation and governance, equitable representation is extended to include members from the institution’s staff, student body, and other stakeholders.
The Governing Councils convene regularly to deliberate upon a spectrum of pertinent issues, offer strategic guidance to institutional leaders, and proffer recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Research is an integral component of the higher education and vital to the development of an academic institution for creating new knowledge. Engaging in “state of the art” research enhances the quality and impact of teaching, thereby ensuring the contribution of education to harmonious growth of the society. In tune with this philosophy, the “Vision and mission” of Indian Academy Group of Institutions (IAGI) is to “become a leading centre for Collaborative and Innovative Research”. The mission set in motion to achieve the vision is by providing the desired support for engaging in high quality fundamental and applied research, pursued by maintaining ethical values and societal responsibilities. IAGI strongly encourages inter-institutional collaborations as well as industry-academia partnership and in areas of mutual interests that are particularly aligned with the national mission. Currently, Indian Academy Degree College Autonomous is a recognized centre for research in Life Sciences by the Bangalore North University.
Recently, the support for research has been augmented on many fronts. A Research Advisory Committee has been constituted to guide the institution on many aspects of research including the identification of core competence and relevant areas of research in synchrony the international status and national priority. A full- fledged “Central Life Sciences Research Laboratory” has been established that not only supports and mentors faculty for undertaking sponsored research, but also pursues its own research projects. Committees have been established to guide faculty and students in ethical aspects of pursuing research and the process of publication, engaging in contract research and professional consultancy services. Many platforms and forums have been created to foster interdisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations in science, commerce and business administration disciplines. Research Mentors and Research Ambassadors are being identified among the existing faculty to help young researchers in shaping and sustaining their research program and long-term research goals.
An intramural funding opportunity is available particularly for young faculty to initiate research in their area of interest and competence to establish their research niche by seeking financial support from national and international sources as well as industries. A number of workshops, symposia and lecture series have been continuously organized covering all disciplines, thereby creating ample opportunity for faculty and students to keep abreast of the status of knowledge and existing as well as emerging technologies.
Indian Academy encourages its faculty and other staff to engage in sponsored research and consultancy projects to strengthen its research capability and to deliver the research output to diversified sections of the society. The CLSR Lab provides an ideal atmosphere to conduct innovative and cutting-edge research.
Engaging students in research has been on the top of our agenda that has significantly impacted the career development of students. With this inclusivity, some of our faculties have been very productive with impactful publications in scholarly journals as well as presentations at the national and international conferences receiving numerous recognitions and awards. This provided students with a stronger set of experiences, which has helped them in preparing and shaping their careers goals.
The opportunity to pursue research as an important component of higher education that holds promise for improving the well-being of society inspires us for continuing our commitment to the institution and the society.
